New cancer screening guidelines help families determine risk
A 14-year ovarian cancer survivor, Nancy Goetze says she always feared the risk of passing on a hereditary cancer to her daughter was relatively high. “Since my daughter looks like me, acts like me, talks like me, I just figured she would definitely have the gene. So we did everything we could,” says Goetze.

"Platinum agents can be effectively re-administered to patients with disease that relapses >12 months after completion of a platinum regimen. Ovarian cancer that relapses 6-12 months after treatment with a platinum regimen is considered partially platinum sensitive.

A research team based at the BC Cancer Agency and Vancouver General Hospital, Vancouver, Canada created a tissue microarray - paraffin blocks which allow numerous tissue samples to be analysed simultaneously - from 518 cases of early-stage ovarian carcinoma.

A Low-fat Diet May Ward Off Ovarian Cancer
Seattle cancer researchers have used data from the Women's Health Initiative trial to study the possible effects of food on the occurrence of ovarian cancer. Part of the trial evaluated the effects of a low-fat dietary pattern on the development of chronic diseases, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer. Ovarian cancer and endometrial (uterine) cancer were also tallied, and the results regarding these were published this month in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

As a personal trainer and motivational speaker and author with little body fat on her 6-foot frame, Ruth McGinnis was the picture of health. When she began experiencing fatigue and an upset stomach, she just thought it was because she had been working too hard.
