• fresh&easy Grand Opening - the fresh&easy neighborhood markets honored OCAN with a $1000 donation at the grand opening of their new Centennial location.  The manager and employees presented ovarian cancer survivors and OCAN staff and volunteers with a large check right before the store's ribbon cutting.  OCAN provided awareness information for all the employees.  We truly appreciate the initiative shown by, Annette Arca, voluntter when she applied for this donation for OCAN!  Annette - you're a star!
  
• MARCH 10th WORKSHOP - MEDICAL UPDATE ON OVARIAN CANCER
  This streaming internet broadcast by CANCERCare from 10:30am-11:30am with a Q&A Panel from 11:30-12:15.  Location:  St. Rose Dominican Hospitals San Martin Campus.  Professional Contact Hour credits for nurses, dieticians and social workers.  Q&A panel: Dr. Paul Michael, MD, Dietician Pam Wagner and Dr. Vicki Koceja-RN,BSN,OCN,FAAMA,BC,PhD. • OCAN has partnered with the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital PGA Golf Tournament to raise funds for both the Shriners Childrens Hospital a
  nd OCAN.  We are selling ANY DAY tournament tickets for the October 2010 Las Vegas Tournament.  Tickets are only $15 when purchased from OCAN directly and can be used to attend the Tournament ANY day (Monday through the final day Sunday).  Ticket vouchers will be available beginning on March 1st and can be purchased in any quantitiy.  Call 702-796-0430 for an Any Day Ticket Voucher.  Or, if you prefer to order from the JTShriners website directly, put in OCAN12 as your promotion code.  Half of the voucher ticket price benefits the Shiriner's Hospital and half will be returned to OCAN. 
• January Support Group Meeting was held at Nevada Cancer Institute and Margo Otto, MSW led the group in an interactive discussion of self advocacy.  The women were so involved in the discussions we didn't even realize the meeting lasted for a full 2 hours!  Thanks Margo for sharing your time, knowledge and amazing facilitation skills.
• In January of 2010 OCAN partnered with the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance to bring a new program to Nevada.  We trained 4 survivors to present to Residents and students at Medical Schools.  The Program, Survivors Teaching Students: Saving Women's Lives, has been taught in over 75 schools across the country and we kicked it off in Nevada at the University of Nevada Medical School on January 29th.
• We can't thank the Boulder City Women's Golf Association enough for honoring OCAN at their their January Tournament and Auction.  They also gave us opporuntities to raise awareness by talking with the group, sharing symptom cards and pins, and posting an article on their public bulletin board. 
• OCAN volunteers deliver displays with awareness/symptom cards to 10 new locations.  We also have Spanish materials available for those who would like them.
• Ovarian Cancer awareness cards and support group flyers displayed at our Community Partner "The Caring Place" in their library and hallway racks. 
• Executive Director, Christina Harris and HERA's new Executive Director, Danni Lederman, tour Nevada Cancer Institute. NVCI displays ovarian cancer informaton literature, including OCAN's awareness flyers in Spanish
• OCAN exhibited at the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation Survivor's Course when it came to Las Vegas in 2009
• OCAN members raise money for Ovarian Cancer research by participating in the HERA Climb for Life events in both Las Vegas and in Salt Lake City Utah.
• Exhibit at "World of Women Conference", Las Vegas, NV  at the Stardust Pavillion - attended by thousands
• National Cancer Survivor Day, exhibit at Summerlin Hospital
• Violin led meditation session by Rebecca Ramsey for survivors of ovarian cancer. The Las Vegas Review Journal and The Neon sent photographers to cover the story.
• American Cancer Society Relay for Life - OCAN team exhibited with a large tent at the relay, and an OCAN member led an invocation to kick off the Relay.
• May 23rd 2004  - OCAN Support Group joined for a memorial brunch in Crispin's honor
• Participated in Ovarian Cancer National Alliance conference in Washington DC
• Lobby Nevada politicians for passing of Department of Defense bill providing funds for Ovarian Cancer research.
• Day of Indulgence - OCAN hosted a half day of massage, manicures, reflexology, aromatherapy, craniosacral therapy, makeovers and other fun indulgences for survivors of gynecological cancers. The event took place at the Sherry Goldstein Yoga Sanctuary and was kicked off with a yoga session taught by Sherry herself!
• Church and temple presentations and numerous Health Fair Exhibits
• Takefuji Classic LPGA Golf Tournament at Las Vegas Country Club - OCAN had a large exhibit tent at the 10th tee for the entire tournament, as well as two pages of coverage in the tournament program.
• OCAN Director interviewed for HERA Foundation Climb for Life promotional video.
• 2004 OCAN selected by the National Association of Women Business Owners to receive a donation from the annual Women of Distinction Awards Dinner. OCAN's Director spoke at the Award dinner to an audience of over 500 people, our organization was featured in the Las Vegas InBusiness magazine. We accepted the donation at a membership luncheon for NAWBO.
• Exhibit at William Sonoma/Pottery Barn employee health fair in Summerlin.
• February 2004 - OCAN's Director and President attended a welcome reception for Dr. Vogelzang held by the Nevada Cancer Institute.
• OCAN exhibited at AHEC First Lady's Conference on Women's Health Issues.
  • We accepted award on Crispin's behalf at Southern Nevada AHEC "Honoring Our Heroes" reception.
  • "Our Stories, Our Power" - Liz Williams, Crispin's mom, presented about Crispin's accomplishments at AHEC First Lady's Conference on Women's Health Issues.
    
• Golf Tournament at Angel Park. Summerlin Hospital has chosen OCAN as one of two charities to benefit from their November 2, 2002 golf tournament
• Ovarian Cancer: Silent No More. A class for health care professionals with CE credits. Vicki Koceja, RN, Oncology Program Director at Sunrise Hospital will be teaching this CE accredited Ovarian Cancer Education Class. OCAN and Southern Nevada Area Health Education Center worked together to bring this class to healthcare professionals in our area.
• Channel 5 came to OCAN meeting in 2002 to get a comment on the “new screening test” for ovarian cancer. We were on the 10pm and 8am news and we got several calls requesting more info.
• OCAN's founder speaks to the Oncology Nursing Society members at their monthly meeting.

• Channel 5 airs a Community Service interview with Crispin.
• The Mobile Mammography Van offers our brochures and symptom cards.
